History of Cizre
Cizre, named after the Arabic word "Cezire" meaning island, is traditionally believed to have been founded by Noah (AS). Over the centuries, it has been under the rule of various civilizations including the Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, Seleucids, and Parthians. With the advent of Islam, it became a significant center for numerous dynasties and states. During the Ottoman period, Cizre was crucial both economically and militarily. Today, it is a district within the Republic of Turkey.
Ebu’l-Izz Ismail al-Jazari
Born in Cizre in 1153, Ebu’l-Izz Ismail al-Jazari was a prominent inventor under the patronage of the Artuqid rulers. His work, "The Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices," provides detailed descriptions of his engineering innovations and has made a lasting impact on science and technology.
